RUN. LIFT. ROLL | Insane Jiu Jitsu Challenge

"RUN. LIFT. ROLL | Insane Jiu Jitsu Challenge" I wanted to see what it would be like to run half a marathon, do an hour lifting session and then go immediately into some jiu-jitsu rolls. How does fatigue impact rolling? How many calories would you burn doing this insane challenge? Is it even possible? A huge shoutout and thank you to my friend Zac from Ground 9 Productions in Sydney for coming ...
Is running good for BJJ?

"Is running good for BJJ?" In this video, we discuss whether running is a legitimate form of conditioning for BJJ performance or if it does more harm than good. This is one of the most common questions I get regarding conditioning for BJJ. There are a lot of conflicting opinions on the topic so I wanted to add my 2c to the conversation. Agree or disagree? Let me know if the comments. #bjj #jiuj...

The End formula says "train 2-3 times a week" how should I add this cardio with 6 days of training. I was thinking maybe just using Tabata and Zone 2 both 2 times a week. Thoughts?
As a 8 year blue belt, I can say with learning wrestling and training cardio I put the upper belts to shame often times and can hold my own against higher ranked opponents especially once they get tired. cardio in the wrestling days was so important but in most bjj academies cardio conditioning is unheard of, no burn out drills no high intensity work after everyone is done sparring.
It's interesting how wrong the speculation ended up being.
Nice one! Will try to follow your advice. Also: what happened to the Beyond Jiu Jitsu Podcast? Did you guys throw the towel?
So you are telling that martial arts where you stand up such as muay thay or boxing are much les stressful and harmful for yoir body?
OSS
love your videos quick question do you still train at advantage and has the beyond podcast ended?
I coach and train at Vantage and yes the podcast is on a long break which we may not come back from
Wait they don’t like this but they like to celebrate like they’ve won the world? Jeez might as well just join Bare Knuckle MMA
There was zero time for tap. He ripped that shit. Disgraceful , he should be shamed and banned from any competitions
What a couple handsome fellas!
I just got my 19yr old kid to try out & he likes it. My 8th old is super excited after today’s trial class. I am going to be broke
not a waste..stop reaching for content
bro this video is 2 years old 💀
Coffee, Motrin, icy hot, lamisil 🤣 just kidding. Thank you
I just started gracie bjj a couple of weeks ago and Ive never fallen in love with something so quickly in my life. Im really glad I dont have kids or a wife because my life is now bjj.
Thanks Kieren, you got a sub from me. I like you based your videos with science peer reviewed papers. Need more like you in bjj.
Thank you!
Do you need to be warmed up before you do the Mobility routine?
No need to do a warm-up before hand
3 days a week is a perfect amount. It will get you to blue belt in 18 months. Each person is different.
For me 3 is not enough, I need more like 4-6. But yeah for most of my students 3 sessions per week is ideal.
2 classes and an open Mat is more than enough. You could go for 7 days a week and just fck around and not learn, but those who can only get to 2-3 classes a week come in with a game plan and learn as much as they can
@@benjamindelfs2718 respectfully disagree. For me I get worse if I only train twice per week. But what if you go into 4-6 classes with a game plan? If the comparison is someone who fucks around for 6 sessions vs. someone who is dialled in for 2 + open mat, then it's an unfair comparison imo
I have two stripes with 7 months training. Glad I stuck it out
Great job to the both of you. Keep up the good work.
No weighted vest for the run??
next time i'll do weight vest for a marathon haha
What size medicine ball is that? Also compared to the one medicine ball you use to throw against the wall or floor what are their weights? And can I us the smaller one to squeeze as well? thanks & blessings in Jesus’s matchless Name.
For the med ball squeeze I recommend using a large, softer medicine ball with sand rather than the bouncy medicine balls. For the ones against the wall, I recommend one that doesn't bounce but you can see in the video, I only have the super bouncy ones available. Don't go super heavy with the med ball throws, the idea is to generate as much force+speed as possible.
I am absolut recorder I think. It took me 8 years to get my stripes and then I was awarded wiith 3 stripes immediatly. I have changed gym becouse I was not able to progress a single bit in my older gym. For the last two years I am training in the new gym, where I was awarded this 3 stripes. But even year later I was not able to get my fourth, althoug I am able to submitt all the white belts regardles the weight difference. And becouse of that fourth stripe I am not able to progress to the blue belt group. So am repeting just the same techniques and the same mistakes, over and over again. And yes, that is frustrating.
If i do medium running for 5 days is it safe ?
I feel like having good training partners will also make a huge difference and in training just tap early ur ego isn’t worth the injuries
Sir if i do 5 times a week ?
Yoo thats the best nutrition video I've watched so far, so much USEFUL informations!
Thank you for your advice! Keep up the great work...Oss!
Sir hand grip Video available?
coming soon
@@KierenLefevre thanx sir but asap
Whey Protein ?
yeah ideally WPI
@@KierenLefevre sir if i take oral rehydration syrup after cardio then after few minutes whey isolate
My toes are so stiff that the knee drops feel impossible without a significant amount of pain. I guess it’s no coincidence I keep hurting my big toes during Bjj training, every time I accidentally have them bent while rolling. 😢
I did cross country one year in high school to help my cardio in wrestling. My coach coached both sports. I was a terrible long distance runner. My coached waited till the last meet to ask me “did you do this to help you with wrestling?” I said yes he said “you know there’s a difference between running endurance and wrestling endurance right?”
"Is running good for..." Yes. Yes it is.
😅
Stumbled into a class where I ended up 1:1 with my professor and had a free private lesson. No stripe white belt. Amazing experience and couldn’t say enough good things about how it helped my development and confidence in so many areas I’ve had little questions about.
Yes
Great video!
Great video and information! I’m fairly new to jiujitsu so your videos are definitely preparing me for success
Yep, got a bike just for that. Im 6.2 tall, 220 lbs. Running is cool, but it put a lot of stress on my body, moved to a bike 15km a day 2-3-4 times a week, my cardio is much better now. And the best part is no knee pain.
I find that with assault bike my legs fatigue before my lungs do. (I do tabathas) Is this normal?
Yeah absolutely normal
@@KierenLefevre Doesn't that make the assault bike less than ideal? If I want to increase my cardio?
@@backrankspank4996 that's what I've thought/feared too
@@backrankspank4996 It could, however, if you stick with it you'll be building up your muscle endurance capacity as well as your cardio. I recommend mixing it up and trying different cardio modalities
I've incorporated running, rowing, and weightlifting into my weekly routine, along with three Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sessions each week. Returning to BJJ at 47 has been a challenging yet rewarding experience. While I was in good shape from weightlifting, I quickly realized that rolling on the mats requires a different level of fitness. It has been a humbling journey, but I'm committed to improving my conditioning and technique.
That's honestly lovely to hear. I'm an ex-weightlifter and after a decade of powerlifting and oly lifting, I decided to move to BJJ cause as I grow older, I wanna focus more on athleticism and endurance rather than pure raw strength!
Excellent video! I’m binging so much of your content whilst working on healing a knee injury. I really look forward to getting back to bjj. Thank you Kieren!
Any update on the return of the beyond jiu jitsu podcast ??
Sorry no
I hate that podcast so much
@@AdamChildsBJJ me too
bro what is this guy saying especially that last statement like wft is he talking about...
2:52 huge flaw in this guys logic here, but this isn't strength training, lifting weights you train till failure and rest. jujitsu is a skill and time on the matt is like studding, the more time you put in the more you learn.
twice a week is that like 2 hours? cuz i train Jujitsu 2 days a week but I do 6 hours total. and | get kickboxing in at 30 minutes for 3 other days. its not the same sport but the PT from one helps the other.
For me it's the opposite. Strength and conditioning 5x per week and jits 2x per week
you're going to have a similar problem from the other side of things. If bjj is a side hobby then maintain, if it's something you want to make your "main hobby" then I recommend reducing your lifting down to 3-4
Single leg squats, lunges etc are so needless for a bjj athlete. Just focus on the big movements and get strong as shit on them. Follow the novice linear progression until that stops working then start to make programming changes. There have been so many people in history who got strong without all this.
You can have both. Including unilateral work does not exclude compound work or somehow detract from it
This made me laugh so hard ❤
Is not gracie's. diet or the jiu jitsu. PIagiarism.
huh?
I love this form of content! Easy for beginners trying to get into Strength and Conditioning for BJJ like me. Def gonna try this next time I’m at the gym
